Lifeboat Gallantry: RNLI Medals and How They Were Won; Barry Cox
Hardback
Condition: New
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was formed in 1824 and since then just over 2,400 gold, silver and (since 1917) bronze medals have been awarded for gallantry in saving life from shipwreck. This book provides the first complete list of all such medals to be published, together with details of the acts of heroism involved - incredible feats of endurance and seamanship of men in rowing and sailing lifeboats before the advent of powered vessels; the dangers of mines and aerial attacks in wartime: saving fishing fleets and board sailors. A fine tribute and a reminder of just how many lives have been saved by the selfless efforts of the lifeboat crews.
